Reports say that Tyler Robinson’s boyfriend has left Utah while the investigation into Charlie Kirk’s m*rder goes on.
Robinson is said to have shot Kirk during a speaking event on September 10. He is said to have confessed to the crime in a series of scary text messages to his partner, Lance Twiggs.
But prosecutors say that Twiggs didn’t tell the police right away after getting the confession.
Lance Twiggs’ Disappearance and the Growing Anger
In the days after the m*rder, people who lived near the couple’s townhouse in St. George, Utah, saw clues that it had been left behind, like mail piling up outside and no sight of Twiggs.
The area is peaceful. According to the New York Post, Jesse Riley, a neighbour, stated that individuals are extremely secluded and that the townhouse looked empty.
Washington County Sheriff Nate Brooksby said that Twiggs is now in a safe place far away from St. George. He said that Twiggs needs to “lay low” because of the public backlash and safety concerns.
Twiggs has not yet been charged, and the authorities say they are working with the inquiry.
Robinson’s Confession to Twiggs: The Text Messages That Made Everything Different
Robinson is said to have sent Twiggs a series of text messages confessing to the crime hours after the shooting.
Robinson told Twiggs to look under a keyboard in one of the messages. There, he had left a note reading, “I had the chance to k!ll Charlie Kirk, and I’m going to do it.”
Twiggs didn’t believe the note at first and asked Robinson if he was joking. Eventually, Robinson allegedly confirmed that he had k!lled Kirk.
Robinson’s texts went on to explain the m*rder.
He is said to have told Twiggs that he “had enough of [Kirk’s] hatred” and told him where he had buried the gun used in the shooting, a rifle that Robinson said he had abandoned in the bushes.
Robinson’s communications also talked about personal things, such as how he was afraid his father would be mad at him for not giving up his grandfather’s pistol.
Even though Twiggs learned these things, he didn’t tell the police right away.
Instead, they sent Robinson a series of texts in which they expressed concern for their partner’s health.
Robinson wrote, “You are all I worry about love,” and Twiggs replied, “I’m much more worried about you.”
Is Twiggs in trouble with the law?
People are wondering if Twiggs could get in trouble with the law for not telling the police right away after these text exchanges came out.
Legal experts say that Twiggs can’t be charged with complicity just because they know about the crime.
Neama Rahmani, a former prosecutor and criminal defence lawyer, told the New York Post that there is generally no duty to report a crime. However, he said that if Twiggs had helped Robinson or gotten in the way of justice, they could be charged with a crime like accessory after the fact or obstruction of justice.
Authorities say that Twiggs is working with the investigation right now, but more accusations could yet be brought against him.
Rahmani remarked that if there is something we don’t know about, like lying, hiding, or deleting evidence, then Twiggs might definitely face prosecution.
