Anderson South Carolina hosts a teenager named Kaylee Muthart who led the class as an outstanding scholar.
She earned straight As at school while keeping her spot in the National Honor Society and presented strong potential for the future.
Despite her excellent start her true problems emerged leading her into drug use and damaging her own life. When she reached 17 years old Kaylee concluded she needed to end her formal education.
Working long hours at her job to save money for a car became so hard that her heartbeat problems endangered her schoolwork.

She took a break from school yet planned to resume after strengthening her mind to achieve her dream of studying marine biology.
She took up casual social consumption of alcohol and marijuana during her time off. Recognizing a family history of addiction, she consciously steered clear of what she considered “more serious drugs.”
At age 19 a regular teenage meeting changed her life forever. She accepted a joint from her friend who did not disclose the methamphetamine inside.
The drug experience brought her a deep spiritual connection that felt different from any before. She sensed that her marijuana was intentionally combined with either cocaine or meth because of the overwhelming impact of her later experience.

The drug discovery so shocked her that she completely cut ties with her friend and abandoned school forever. Over time her life went downhill towards destruction.
She started using drugs and alcohol to help her deal with her situation since she had no reliable work. Her separation from her boyfriend made her distress and loneliness grow stronger.
She began taking drugs because she wanted to find that peace she loved during her youth. She began to try meth because of her search.
The first effects of the drug were powerful enough to turn her into a regular snorter before she injected the drug. Her drug problems got more serious day by day.

She experienced more and stronger hallucinations and found it harder to stay grounded. At that moment she felt the earth was facing destruction which she resolved to fix through her actions.
After believing that removing her eyes would save the world she followed this belief with action.
The church pastor discovered Kaylee with blood-touched eyeballs in her hands and stopped her until emergency services arrived.
Medical specialists at the hospital performed urgent surgery to take out the leftover eyes parts and shield her optic nerve system from possible harm. The severe pain did not stop her from avoiding drugs.
She rejected powerful painkillers and took Tylenol as treatment. After treatment at the psychiatric center doctors diagnosed her with bipolar disorder.

The diagnosis helped her understand her behavior because she had been dealing with unstable moods for a long time. Although facing many obstacles she did not lose her determination to get better.
She did therapy while joining support groups and acknowledged her new situation in life. She adjusted to her blindness by developing her other senses to handle daily life situations.
Today, Kaylee wears prosthetic eyes, not for vision, but to present a more “normal” appearance to the outside world. She has revived her musical interest by playing guitar and teaching herself piano.
Her activities bring her happiness even though she is blind and she looks back at her path. “I’m happier now than I was before all this happened. I’d rather be blind than dependent on drugs.”
Kaylee’s experiences teach us about drug addiction’s harm while showing us how much mental health knowledge matters. Through her comeback she gives strength to others who want to rebuild their individual lives.

What caused Kaylee to destroy her own eyes through self-harm?
Although desperate for a solution she thought destroying the world would be the only way to stop its devastation. Under the influence of meth she made a decisive action which permanently altered her existence.
