Shot and killed by authorities in South San Francisco on Monday following a violent fight with a neighbor over tree debris, this well-known Bay Area death metal scene player was dead.

Allegedly pointing weapons at police, 60-year- Brian Montana, a guitarist for the band Possessed, was declared dead on the spot. Thursday, the South San Francisco Police Department sent this material to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Possessed posted a picture of Montana with the words, “Rest In Peace Brian Montana,” in a moving homage on Instagram. The band said he was essential to their early roster.

Police accounts state Montana fired a handgun, shotgun, and rifle numerous rounds at responding police officers. “Officers used patrol cars for cover and returned fire,” said the police. About thirty minutes of firing passed until Montana was hit and declared dead on-site.

After learning about an armed man threatening a neighbor, authorities responded at the 300 block of Arroyo Drive at about 6 p.m. local time. Law enforcement officials said the incident started when Montana became “enraged” over tree clippings from a nearby property, which resulted in the sad confrontation.

This event emphasises the need of conflict resolution and community involvement since it shows the severe character of conflicts that could develop suddenly.

Authorities told the local TV station they saw a man—later identified as Montana—shooting a gun inside a house.

Police reports state Montana was seen heading to a nearby driveway following this incident, hiding behind a parked car and some vegetation.

Montana then started firing on responding police with three distinct kinds of weapons: a handgun, a shotgun, and a rifle.

Police reports state Montana was found unresponsive and proclaimed deceased at the scene following first assistance. While no cops were injured, another person in the neighborhood suffered injuries during the incident but is expected to recover.

Possessed, a well-known death metal industry name with over 195,000 Instagram followers, is currently on tour promoting their album “Revelations of Oblivion,” as posted on their social media sites.

Daily Mail.com has asked the band for comments on Montana’s passing via their social media platforms.

Officials verified that the police personnel engaged in the shooting had been put on administrative leave per usual process.

Authorities said that public access to further specifics will be provided later, including audio and video recordings of the sad incident.

The San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office is presently looking at the incident, according to the police.

Montana had already been a guitarist for a different incarnation of Possessed, a band known alongside other heavyweights such as Metallica, Death Angel, and Testament.

Montana is sadly not the first member of Possessed to experience gun violence; lead singer Jeff Becerra was shot in 1989 and left paraplegic from the waist down.

Becerra revealed in a 2019 interview with The Underground Metal Gamer that he was shot by armed robbers while out for smokes, thereby narrating the horrific event.

When he thought back on that day, he said he knew he was at major risk since he felt cornered during the heist. Though he knew too late that acquiescence could have been safer, he felt instinctively resistant.

Becerra was shot several times during the fight; one bullet struck his chest and seriously damaged his lungs and spine. His T3 vertebra still shows a 9-millimeter bullet embedded there.

Becerra said, in his own words, how transformative this event was: “I’ve been in a wheelchair longer than I’ve been walking,” he said, then he said that this reality had become his normal.

This sad incident emphasizes the continuous problems with gun violence in modern society and reminds us of the risks that could develop in daily life.
