Robin Wright is the latest famous person to leave the US and start a new life abroad.
She is best recognized for her performance as Jenny Curran in Forrest Gump.
The 59-year-old actress recently said that she has moved to England. She called the move a freeing and serene change.

Wright told The Times that she decided to emigrate because her life in the US had become too chaotic.
“America is a mess.” Wright said, “I love being in this country,” about being in the UK. You can be yourself here. People are nice. They are alive. They’re not in a car stuck in traffic, freaking out on the phone, or eating a sandwich. That’s a lot of people in America. Everything is about speed, competition, and haste.
Wright is not the only famous person to move to a new country in the last several years. Ellen DeGeneres, Portia de Rossi, Rosie O’Donnell, Richard Gere, and Lena Dunham are among examples.

Wright, who was married to actor Sean Penn from 1996 until 2010, thought about how she met her new partner, architect Henry Smith, in England. She said that their meeting at a pub was fate.
Henry was 6 feet 2 inches tall and standing at the bar. He set his pint down, came over to me, and grasped my shoulders. He says, “Who the f*** are you?” I said, “Who the hell are you?” She said that was it.
I’m 60 years old and I’m like, “Is this it?” I’ve been alone a lot, and I adore it. But I want to grow old with someone and tour the world, she said, adding that her relationship with Smith was very gratifying.

The actress from The Princess Bride left because she didn’t like California, but other celebrities, like O’Donnell, have said they left for political reasons.
She moved to Ireland in January 2025 with her 12-year-old daughter, Dakota. In a heartbreaking TikTok video, she said that the political situation in the US under President Donald Trump had a big impact on her decision.
She talked about how kind and inviting the people in their new home have been, saying, “The people are so loving and so kind and so welcoming.”

The 63-year-old former talk show presenter has also said that she wants things to improve in the U.S. before she would think about coming back. She remarked that we will think about coming back when it is safe for everyone in America to have the same rights.
DeGeneres and her wife moved to the English countryside right before the 2024 election. They opted to stay after hearing that Trump had won.
We woke up to a barrage of texts from friends with sobbing emojis after arriving here the day before the election. She told The Guardian, “He got in,” to which I replied. “We’re staying here,” we add.

The pair, who got married for the first time in 2008, love living in the country. It’s very pretty. This kind of beauty is new to us. She added that everything you see, from the villages and towns to the buildings, is beautiful, and that life is just easier there.
She said through BBC News, “It’s clean.” People are nicer and animals are handled better here. I really like it here. We arrived here in November, which wasn’t the best timing, but it was the first time I saw snow. Although November wasn’t the ideal time for us to visit, it was the first time I had ever seen snow. Here, we truly enjoy ourselves. I had hens, and Portia brought her horses. We also had sheep for about two weeks.
