After a small mistake of his own, Donald Trump could be regretting some of the things he made fun of Joe Biden for.
This past weekend, the President of the United States had a less-than-graceful moment when he almost fell on his face while mounting the steps of Air Force One.
Trump was holding on to the handrail as he walked up to the plane when his left foot hit the edge of a step. He tripped, quickly grabbed the rail to stop himself, and kept going as if nothing had occurred.

But it really did happen, and the cameras caught it all.
The video went viral online in a matter of hours, showing Trump briefly losing his footing before continuing up the stairs. A still photographer also caught the moment in the middle of the stumble, and the internet quickly spread the news.
To be honest, presidential stair falls aren’t very common. Barack Obama had one. Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan had theirs. Joe Biden has had a few too, and that’s when things get *spicy*.

Trump didn’t just laugh off Biden’s mistakes when they happened. He made fun of them again and over again.
Trump made fun of Biden for collapsing at the Air Force graduation ceremony in Colorado in 2023. He said it was “not inspiring” for the graduates to have seen the then-POTUS fall over a sandbag, according to The Independent.
Fox News and other right-wing news outlets were happy to spread the remark, turning Biden’s occasional physical stumbles into a story about age, fitness, and competency. There were montages, memes, slow-motion replays, and all the rest.

So now, with Trump himself stuck in the middle of a wobble? Yes, the internet is going crazy.
“Donald Trump was caught on camera stumbling and almost falling while getting on Air Force One.” One user on X stated, “Trump’s cognitive abilities make him unfit for office,” along with a side-by-side picture of Trump and Biden both falling on the famed plane stairs.
Another person said, “I’m surprised he hasn’t put in a portable escalator instead of those stairs.”
Some people pointed out the irony by remarking, “A hypocrite tripping up the stairs.” I want Trump to take a cognitive exam from a professional doctor on live TV.

This wasn’t a terrible fall, just to be clear. Trump didn’t fall, didn’t need aid, and didn’t lose a beat after he got his balance. But when you make fun of other people’s mistakes in your political comedy, it hurts a little more.
Especially after an election year where both major candidates, Trump and Biden, were always being watched for their age, health, and ability to look “presidential.”
This was an embarrassing reminder for Trump, who often calls himself the dynamic, tough-talking alternative to Biden, that even the most media-savvy president can make a mistake.

The ad definitely won’t change how people vote, but it has given the internet a great chance to make a meme. There are already TikToks out there. There are edits going around with dramatic music. One user even included Miley Cyrus’s song “The Climb,” because the internet is crazy.
So, what can we learn from this? Maybe just a little bit of humility. Because the higher the steps and the louder the shade you throw, the harder the fall is while the cameras are rolling.
