Dr. Nirali Sureshkumar Patel, a 32-year-old dentist from Mississauga, Ontario, was one of the people who died in the crash. She was the only Canadian on the flight.
Dr. Patel had just been in India for four or five days before getting on the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner to London on June 12. She was the mother of a one-year-old kid.
At 1:38 p.m. local time, the jet took off from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. However, less than a minute into the flight, at just 625 feet, the plane’s signal disappeared.
A few moments later, it smashed into a house in Meghani Nagar, hitting the BJ Medical College physicians’ hostel hard.

At first, officials thought there were no survivors, but subsequently it was discovered that one guy, 40-year-old British citizen Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, did survive. He was in seat 11A.
There was a huge noise thirty seconds after takeoff, and then the jet crashed. Ramesh informed the Hindustan Times from his hospital bed that it all occurred so fast. There were bodies all around me when I woke up. I was afraid. I got up and ran.
He hurt his chest, eyes, and feet, and he said that his brother, Ajay Kumar Ramesh, 45, was also on board and is thought to be de@d.
At least 200 remains were found at the crash scene, many of them were burned beyond recognition. Along with Dr. Patel and Ramesh, the plane had 169 Indians, 53 British, and seven Portuguese people on board.
Dr. Patel’s husband, who is now traveling to India with their child, told the National Post, “That was my wife.” I can’t talk right now.
“It’s absolutely shocking,” said Don Patel, a family friend and community leader. There are no words in this complaint… She was going to come back. And we heard this sad news as soon as we woke up.
Doug Ford, the Premier of Ontario, sent his condolences on X, saying, “On behalf of the people of Ontario, I send my deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of every victim.”

Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, the pilot, having flown for more than 8,200 hours. There was a mayday signal right before the accident, but no one else talked to them. The reason is still being looked into.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on X (previously Twitter) that he went to the crash scene and talked to the people who were hurt in the disaster, including Ramesh.
[We] told them that we are with them and their families at this hard time. He also said, “The whole country is praying for their quick recovery.”

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said he was “devastated” to learn about the plane crash that k!lled so many people, including one Canadian. He said, “My thoughts are with the loved ones of everyone on board.”
Sir Keir Starmer, the Prime Minister of the UK, called the disaster “devastating,” and King Charles and Queen Camilla have also been told about it.
We are still thinking about everyone who was hurt by this terrible event.
