Pope Leo XIV’s Twitter history has resurfaced, and former US President Donald Trump might have something to say about it.
When Pope Francis passed away a month ago at the age of 88, many people were left wondering who would succeed him as the leader of the Catholic Church. Following the appropriate nine-day mourning period, the news was revealed today (May 8) that the conclave had chosen Pope Francis’ successor. Cardinal Robert Prevost, 69, was appointed the new pope and will be known as Pope Leo XIV.

This marks a significant historical moment, as Cardinal Prevost becomes the first American pope ever elected.
Though Donald Trump made jokes about wearing the miter himself and offended some Catholics with a ‘blasphemous’ AI-generated image, he seemed pleased with the news. However, has he forgotten about the comments Pope Leo XIV previously made about his policies on Twitter?”

“Recently, Pope Leo XIV, then known as Cardinal Robert Prevost, shared a tweet that reads: “As Trump and Bukele use the Oval Office for the illegal deportation of a Salvadoran resident of the United States who was once an undocumented Salvadoran himself, DC Aux + Evelio now asks, ‘Do you not see the suffering?'” Does not your conscience seem to be troubled? What keeps you from speaking up?”
The Independent also reported that Prevost reshared another tweet stating: ‘There is nothing Christian, American, or morally right about a policy that separates children from their parents and locks them in cages.

This is being done in our name, and we should all feel ashamed.’
The newly elected pope has also criticized Trump’s vice president, JD Vance, by sharing an op-ed from the National Catholic Reporter.”JD Vance is wrong: Jesus does not ask us to rank our love for others,” was the title of the opinion piece that was written.
This article came after Vance made a controversial comment in February to Fox News, where he said: ‘There is a Christian concept that you love your family first, then your neighbors, your community, and your fellow citizens. After that, you can love the rest of the world. Quite a few people on the extreme left have fully turned that around.
These resurfaced comments come right after Trump reacted to the announcement of Pope Leo XIV’s appointment on Truth Social.”

The following is an excerpt from President Trump’s post on Truth Social: “Congratulations to Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, who has just been named Pope.” The fact that he is the first American Pope is a profound honour to be aware of.
This is such a momentous occasion, and it does our nation a tremendous amount of honour.
I have a great deal of excitement and expectation for the meeting with Pope Leo XIV. This is going to be a memorable occasion!
