A woman has become famous for saying that her toilet seat notified her she was pregnant.

A woman and her husband made a silent choice at the beginning of 2020: quit using birth control, don’t actively try to get pregnant, and let fate take care of the rest. They didn’t feel rushed.

But life had other ideas. When COVID hit, her job became remote, her stress levels rose, and then something small and strange started happening in their tiny bathroom.

At first, it was just annoying.  The toilet continued acting differently, not in terms of shape or location, but in terms of conduct.

She and her husband cleaned all the time because they thought some cheap fabric or dye was getting on the porcelain. Nothing worked to get rid of it: bleach, vinegar, or elbow grease.

The pair joked, fought, and cleaned until their hands were sore. It kept happening for a few days, and suddenly, as if on cue, her mother and sister, who are both very good at reading emotions, showed up.

You know what occurred next if you’ve ever been in a family where “I just know” is treated like the truth.

“You are pregnant,” her sister remarked clearly and with confidence.

The woman laughed it off. She hadn’t missed a period yet because she had just been off birth control for a short time. It seemed like the idea was unachievable. The family left, the cleaning started again, and doubt set in.

Curiosity won.  Her husband went to Google, and the internet came up with a bizarre idea.

Hormonal changes can sometimes affect perspiration or other materials in ways you wouldn’t expect during the first several months of pregnancy.

He smiled and said, “You might be pregnant,” half-jokingly.  She said no. That same night, though, after throwing up a plate, she felt so sick that she ran to the bathroom. In the most basic manner, throwing up seemed like proof. The next day, they bought a test.

They looked at the stick as if it held the answer to the universe. It did: pregnant.

The complete, ludicrous reality didn’t come out until after the exam. It was the thing that had made them clean their skin with bleach every night and search for conspiracies on Google.

The weird mystery in the bathroom?  The toilet seat itself had changed color, and there was a brilliant, definite purple-blue tinge on the seat and even where her leg brushed the sink next to it.

The strange, bright color was the family’s unusual way of announcing their pregnancy.
