A driver is sure that “99% of drivers” don’t know what this sign means.

You have to pass a theory test before you can take your driving test in the UK.

Drivers need to know the rules of the road, including what traffic signs mean, and they also need to take the danger perception test.

Even though this is required, it looks like most drivers have forgotten what one common sign says.

This round traffic sign may be seen on highways all around the UK. It has a white background with a thick black diagonal stripe going through the middle.

This is a road sign that all drivers should know about, yet it appears like a lot of people don’t know what it signifies.

One individual wrote on Reddit, “I’m sure 99% of drivers don’t know what this sign means.”

People have been leaving comments with their own guesses. One individual joked, “National drifting zone.”

Someone person argues that there is a national speed restriction, but it depends on what kind of car you drive.  If you’re driving a BMW, for instance, you can go 100 mph and don’t have to use your turn signals.

Someone else writes, “Oh, that’s the ‘go as fast as you want and pass on a bend if you want to’ sign!”

Someone another says, “It implies ‘minimum speed—80,’ to which someone else replies, ‘In my experience, it’s ‘max 40.’

A fourth person says, “I see flat out.”

Another person joked that it signifies you’re driving in the country.

If you’re not sure what the sign signifies, it says you can drive at the national speed limit.

The RAC says that a white circular sign with a single black diagonal line through it means that the national speed limit is in effect on the next section of road.

It takes the place of any previous speed restriction signs you may have had to follow, including when you had to drive through temporary roadworks.

The national speed limit, on the other hand, depends on where you are.

The speed restriction for all cars in a built-up area, which is a road with street lights no more than 200 yards apart, is 30 mph. The speed limit for autos on a single-carriageway road is 60 miles per hour.

But for vans or cars that are hauling a trailer or caravan, the speed limit is 50 mph.

On a dual carriageway or highway, the speed limit is also 70 mph for cars and 60 mph for vans and vehicles carrying a motorhome or trailer.

The RAC warns that even when the national speed limit is in effect, it may not always be safe to drive at that pace. Use your common sense on this.
