Jimmy Carr displayed a different side of himself at an upcoming comedy gig after getting a heartwarming message from a fan who thanked him for helping him through a tough period.
The 52-year-old comic is known for his dark humor and keen wit. He seemed moved when he read the romantic note during the show. A person in the audience said that Carr’s Netflix specials and social media videos had given him hope when he was thinking about killing himself.

Carr said in the text, “In 2020, I tried to kill myself because I couldn’t find a way to get over my depression.” The Netflix series and social media clips made me grin when everything else was bleak.
I got this message after two years of being out of the hospital and finally getting to see you live with my amazing partner, Hannah. Jimmy, thanks for being the light in the dark.
Carr was clearly upset when reading the post and had to stop for a while to collect himself. At that point, the crowd shouted “g@y” at just the right time, which made everyone, including Carr, laugh and say it was “perfect.”

Carr asked the person who wrote the email to identify himself again. Someone in the audience yelled out and named him. Carr grinned and added, “Hey man, I’m a little teary.” This makes me so happy. Thanks for being so nice. Thanks a lot.
He went on to explain, “It’s a very strange thing and has nothing to do with me.” But it’s a lovely thing. I’m happy you mentioned that. I think a lot of people assume, “Oh, I could figure out what it meant,” when they hear this. Writing a note like that means something, and that’s the truth.

The fan said, “It takes time, and it gets better,” and Carr said, “Thanks, mate.” That’s incredible. Thanks, Hannah, too.
When you’re depressed, it can be because you’re alone. You can’t get out of your own head. But these identities (who we are with friends, family, and partners) are a big part of who we are, and getting back in touch with them really helps. So thank you for being there for him.
He said, “That really made my day.” It has definitely made my week. Amazing.”

Because Carr had personal experience with mental health concerns, the talk hit home for him. Carr talked about a bad time in his life and the things that made him who he is now during an appearance on Alison Hammond’s interview show.
Carr admitted that he was a little down in his mid-20s. I didn’t enjoy my life and didn’t like where it was going. I gave up everything and started doing comedy over the bar.

Carr talked of the tragic de@th of his maternal grandmother Nora, who died of pancreatic cancer when he was in his 20s. He thought about how his mother’s battle with depression when he was a child had affected his sense of humor and his desire to make people happy.
During my childhood, she was often sad. I had to be funny because it made her happy, which made me happy.
