Bryson Funk, who was from Dauphin County in Pennsylvania was a skilled baseball player with the Linglestown Colts baseball team and an active member of 717 Athletics cheerleaders. He was renowned for his enthusiasm and energy.’
On June 11, the 10-year-old struck out the last batter in a thrilling finish which secured the championship for his team in baseball.
The photo captured captures Funk smiling after his triumph on the field; it was heartbreaking this would become the last photo taken of Funk.
The following day, he was taken in the direction of Penn State Hershey Medical Center and was not able to recover.
The de@th of a young boy has caused shock waves throughout all of the Pennsylvania community.
Elias Vilfort, Funk’s 9-year-old teammate, revealed to CBS affiliate WHP that he would perform the backflip to make the play or slide into the muddy dirt for the sake of acting like it’s nothing. That’s the kind of athlete he was.
Vilfort also recalled the day that his friend passed away the following morning: my mother received a phone message that said the patient was in an inpatient hospital Vilfort stated. “I’m just still shocked that this happened, and I never even thought of this happening.”
Nicki Brantner, a cousin of Funk’s mother, set up a GoFundMe campaign to help Funk’s family after his sudden de@th.
