If illegal aliens opt to “self-deport,” Donald Trump is suggesting a new program whereby they may receive a “exit bonus” together with a free flight out of the US. Though it calls for drastic actions, this strategy illustrates his continuous dedication to lower immigration to the United States.
The Trump government has previously employed a variety of strategies to handle immigration, including enforcing old war laws for mass deportations, levying heavy tariffs on surrounding nations to stop migration, trying to revoke humanitarian parole for almost 500,000 people, and even forwarding migrants accused of crimes to a large prison in El Salvador.
But after some Supreme Court legal challenges on these divisive policies, President Trump signed an executive order on May 9 starting a new initiative meant to inspire illegal immigrants to leave on their own will. Called “Project Homecoming,” the initiative will offer illegal immigrants who agree to return to their native countries free government-funded flights along with a financial incentive.
The executive order gives illegal immigrants two choices: either they might decide to face severe fines and punishment or leave the US with federal backing and financial aid. Those who choose the self-deportation path can use the CBP Home app, a new tool designed to assist in free government-funded airline booking. The software will also assist immigrants with booking flights and gathering their “exit bonus,” at US airports.
If immigrants opt to self-deport under this new program, they are not even required to go back to their own country. As long as it’s outside the United States, President Trump declared they can travel “anywhere” in the globe.
On his Truth Social page, he announced the news and penned, “Today, I issued an Executive Order to establish the first-ever self-deportation program. Illegal immigrants residing in America will be subject to penalties, including to a place and method of our choice swift expulsion. TO ALL ILLEGAL ALIENS: BOOK YOUR FREE FLIGHT TODAY!”
Trump clarified the initiative in a video: “We are making it as easy as possible for illegal aliens to depart America. Any illegal immigrant can just show up at an airport and be granted a free ticket out of our nation.” He then went on to say that, except from the United States, the recently released CBP Home app lets users reserve free flights to any foreign nation.
To inspire voluntary self-deportation even more, Trump also proposed the idea of a “exit bonus”. Once their presence in their selected nation is verified via the app, immigrants are anticipated to get a “bonus” of roughly $1,000 per. Trump underlined that this program would save American taxpayers billions of dollars, with future savings maybe approaching trillion.
Trump sent a strong warning to anyone who choose to remain in the nation. “Illegal aliens who stay in America will face severe consequences, including major jail time, large financial penalties, confiscated property, wage garnishment, and sudden deportation,” he said. “So, to all illegal aliens, book your free flight right now,” he said closingly.
