Many years of emotional abuse pushed Natasha to seek help by inviting a television show to intervene in their marriage.
The purpose of going on the Dr. Phil show was more complex for Natasha than just seeking help.
She undertook the intervention to keep her marriage together while wanting to know the person she married after many years of abuse.
Living in constant anxiety became a part of her life for multiple years.
Brenden shouted at her without reason and hit her during their physical fights.

She described one form of abuse she’d endured repeatedly—something she called “muffing,” a violent push to the face.
She continued to trust he would change despite suffering his abusive actions.
Brenden revealed his problems and knew his anger spikes resulted from heavy anxiety.
He shared with Dr. Phil his expectation to find treatment that would change his family life.
Dr. Phil sought expert insight from Dr. Bradley Jabour a prominent neuroradiologist to find the natural cause of Brenden’s actions.
Dr. Jabour leads the radiology services at Medical Imaging Center Southern California and works as its top executive officer.

They would scan Brenden’s brain completely to explore medical sources of his anger.
“We have powerful techniques which can look at the architecture of your brain,” Dr. Jabour said.
Our team wants to identify all signs of brain harm that might result from various problems past trauma.
The scan would show Brenden’s brain structure as well as show his brain functions.
Natasha waited anxiously for answers.
Brenden and Natasha looked forward to it yet feared discovering new information about his condition.
The medical team carried out the imaging test then brought the test results back to the studio.
Everyone remained unprepared for the examination findings.

Dr. Jabour shared his shock.
“I was surprised… he mentioned he never had any impactful head trauma.”
During the scan our team found major facts about Brenden’s real health condition.
“We see evidence that looks like at some point, somewhere, Brenden suffered a hit on the head—or was knocked unconscious.”
He explained there were “several of these areas of gliosis”—a term used for scar tissue found in the brain.
Scarring in the brain normally develops after head trauma regardless of whether people know or remember experiencing it.

Brenden was stunned.
The revelation of possible brain injury caused him to cry uncontrollably.
The doctor suggested Brenden take professional mental and medical treatments.
Brenden had seven distinct brain scars which Dr. Jabour pointed out to him at our meeting.
Jabour remains unsure of the link between Brenden’s anger problems and any specific life event.
“Or has he always been angry, even as a 12, 13, 15-year-old?”

Dr. Phil asked everyone present the mystery that had been on their minds.
“Would you call this scan abnormal?”
After thinking he spoke up with his findings.
“Abnormal? Yes.”

The diagnosis that had remained hidden before may now give Brenden and Natasha necessary insights they have long sought.
Some destructive actions come from hidden brain changes that no one saw coming.
